Standards & Open Source Research Division
Standards & Open Source Research Division is a specialized group for ICT standardization technology and policy which carries out preemptive standardization on future core technologies and consumer-centered standardization to solve public and social issues. Our primary research work includes standardization for future core technologies for information and communications such as Artificial intelligence, Blockchain, Fintech, Cloud computing, Big data, IoT, Wearables, Autonomous vehicles, Future networks, 5G, B5G future mobile telecommunications, and multimedia communications. Our research also encompasses standardization for ICT convergence services of different industries such as Manufacturing, Environment, Energy, City, Transportation, Agriculture, Healthcare, and Welfare.
We also develop standards for public services, including technical regulations for broadcasting and communication facilities, public safety, and disaster response. Additionally, we are managing open source governance to counterfeit open source risk and to support effective open source related R&D works. Other activities such as promoting international cooperation with relevant organizations, and cultivating global leader class committer for open source SW development are also our role and duty.
⬥ Open Source Center
The Open Source Center is responsible for ETRI‘s open source policies and governance as well as supporting an open source compliance for the software development as R&D outcomes in ETRI. The Open Source Center is also providing the guidelines for the open source based R&D activities and is supporting a government policy and strategy for open source.
⬥ Intelligence & Information Standards Research Section
The Intelligence & Information Standards Research Section is responsible for market and industry-driven standardization of future ICT standard technology based on intelligence and information. In particular, we pursue standardization of core technologies of the fourth industrial revolution such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, big data, mobile (5G), IoT, and blockchain. At 3GPP, OCF, W3C, and IETF, we focus on developing international standards in cooperation with various industry stakeholders. At ITU-T, ISO/IEC JTC 1, IEC and ISO, we take the lead in in international standardization to represent the Republic of Korea.
⬥ ICT Convergence Standards Research Section
The ICT Convergence Standards Research Section is developing technologies and standards that use ICT to solve public demands and people's living problems. We are working on smart city to intelligent city operation; smart manufacturing to increase manufacturing productivity; smart energy and electric safety for renewable energy production, storage and supply; smart agriculture for efficiency of food production; and people's living safety and disaster response. In addition, we are doing support of technical regulations for broadcasting and telecommunication facilities, as well as standardizing problem solving technologies in the areas related to people's lives such as transportation and welfare.
