Disease Symptom Research Section
The Disease Symptom Research Section aims to establish a risk assessment system for domestic foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) that takes into account the outbreak situation of overseas diseases and to develop early detection technology of abnormality signs through real-time monitoring of livestock behavior and biological information. In order to construct a risk assessment system for domestic FMD, we plan to establish an early warning system for the risk of domestic foot-and-mouth disease by database of FMD reports and news from neighboring countries. To develop early detection technology, we plan to obtain data on the physical anomalies of livestock including diseases by monitoring the daily state of livestock based on daily activities of livestock, feeding and drinking water, sound and temperature. The data will be sent to farmers, public veterinarians and animal health laboratories to report abnormalities and to develop a monitoring system to confirm the infection. The final result will be used as part of the national livestock disease integration system in conjunction with the Korea Animal Health Integrated System (KAHIS) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Livestock Quarantine.
