[CES 2021] ETRI New Technology

Korea’s Electronic and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) will present some of their innovative technology at the upcoming the world’s largest consumer electronics trade show 'CES 2021'.

ETRI will be exhibiting the AI Processor Technology, 360-degree Tabletop Digital Holographic Display, Intelligent Sound Field Security Sensor Technology, Ultra-high resolution display panel technology for digital holography, Deep learning based Smart City Image Analysis Technology.


▲ AI Processor Technology

The AI processor technology is the processor platform for accelerating ANN(Artificial Neural Network) with a high-performance and low-power for large-scale server and edge applications and RFICs for the detection of small unmanned moving objects

- Innovation and Marketability : AB9 is a general-purpose AI processor capable of perception, inference and decision with 40 TFLOPS and 2.7 TFLOPS/W, VIC is capable of detecting(localizing) objects besides of recognizing objects with small power consumption(1/100 times smaller than GPU), AI Radar is X-band FMCW AESA radar RFICs for the detection of small unmanned moving objects, The AI processor technology is the processor platform for accelerating ANN(Artificial Neural Network) with a high-performance and low-power for large-scale server and edge applications and RFICs for the detection of small unmanned moving objects


▲ 360-degree Tabletop Digital Holographic Display

The digital holographic display system is a technology that reproduces floating 3D digital color holographic images that look similar to real objects reproduced on a tabletop display. It is possible for multiple users to simultaneously observe a volumetric 5-inch color hologram image reproduced on the tabletop display from all directions around it without wearing special devices such as glasses.

- Digital hologram display technology that can provide 3D images allowing users to easily see and perceive as if there is a real object without visual fatigue.

- Innovation : Volumetric 3D image display allowing multiple users to simultaneously view 3D images from different directions around 360-degrees by spatio-temporal multiplexing of multiple holographic images

- Marketability : Exhibition and advertising, Areas that require 3D shape recognition and interaction such as medicine, education, architecture, etc,  Tele-presence field such as remote performance, remote video phone.


▲ Intelligent Sound Field Security Sensor Technology

Sound field sensor technology is the world 1st intelligent sensor technology invented by ETRI to detect intrusion and fire without blind zone based on the analysis of sound field spectrum variation which is obtained from the signal process of the multi-tone sound. The multi-tone sound generated from a speaker is measured with a microphone in the sound field sensor.


- Collaboration with ETRI spin-off start-up company Secuworks Co.

- Security and safety sensor technology to detect intrusion and fire without blind zone in house, office, public buildings, factory, and warehouse 

- Innovation, Marketability : Huge market effect for stand-alone sound field sensor product and sound field sensor related CCTV, AI speaker, and switch/panel board


▲ Ultra-high resolution display panel technology for digital holography

The ultra-high resolution display panel technology providing digital hologram video with 1um size pixels. The size of pixel is similar to the wavelength of visible light so that the provided hologram images can be watched without any help of optical elements over the 30 degree wide only with suitable light sources. The ultra-high resolution display panel technology can be expanded to large area panel because that it is based on glass substrate.

- The technology providing the user experience of watching dynamic 3D objects through realizing real hologram video without any fatigue.

- Innovation : Accomplishment of the display panel with 1um pixel size through a novel pixel structure (world 1st). 

- Marketability : Hologram mobile phone or pads, Hologram VR/MR devices, Hologram TVs.


▲ Deep Learning based Smart City Image Analysis Technology

- Based on vehicle recognition, re-identification, and tracking technology using video data on the multi-camera control system, it facilitates the vehicle flow inside the smart parking lot and optimizes the use of parking space. Early fire suppression service through an early detection and alarm system based on the detection of the shape and the fine movement of flame and smoke in the video streaming of a CCTV control system.

- Collaborative works with MJ vision tech Co.

- It is a core technology for building a smart city that provides optimal solutions by recognizing / re-identifying / tracking objects and recognizing surrounding conditions using CCTV video information.

- Innovation: Providing smart city-related services with only deep learning-based video analysis without additional sensor or user intervention

- Marketability : Easily added and expanded to camera-related surveillance systems as well as general CCTV systems
