dedicated to enhancing the international competitiveness of the domestic semiconductor industry.
The Semiconductor Laboratory at the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) was established in 1987 with support from KT and joint research funding from various government ministries. It began with the creation of the Silicon Laboratory on the G floor of Building 4 within ETRI. Since then, it has expanded to include the Compound Semiconductor Laboratory, Display R&D Laboratory, Secondary Battery Laboratory, Photovoltaic Laboratory, and Nanomaterial Laboratory. The laboratory has been instrumental in conducting various IT material and component research as well as IT-based research, playing a pivotal role in the development of IT material and component technology in Korea.
Aiming to position Korea as one of the top three countries in IT component materials, the Semiconductor Laboratory has been providing an R&D environment to develop core IT component technologies, develop IT components and materials technology for creating new technologies and markets, and develop innovative and adventurous new materials and devices that will overcome the limitations of current IT technology and serve as seeds for future information and communication technologies. Additionally, the lab offers Foundry Services by utilizing some of its research facilities to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), academia, and other research institutions.
With the advanced research equipment and technical expertise housed within the ETRI Semiconductor Laboratory, we are committed to providing an environment where companies can efficiently conduct their technological development. We pledge to support SMEs with relevant technologies in the fields of power semiconductors, sensors, MEMS, IT materials and components, physical analysis, and packaging, thereby enhancing the international competitiveness of the domestic industry.
