ETRI Develops Radio Direction Finder with 20km Range
ETRI has developed key techniques for radio direction finders, doubling the range of detection and allowing greater sensitivity to weak signals as well as broadband radio signals. The signal detection technology uses digital signal processing and removes noise from multi-channel signals through correlation processing to extract pure radio signal sources.

The technology supports a range of 20km and a reception of 6GHz, representing twofold improvements compared to the current levels of 10km and 3GHz, respectively. In addition, the bandwidth has been enhanced from 10MHz to 25MHz, such that broadband radio signal sources can be easily found.
With the third-generation broadband direction finding technology, aircrafts and ships in distress can send signals and alert others of their positions. It also responds immediately to malicious GPS interruptions.

The new technology, with a market value of at least 200 billion won, is expected to contribute to the development of small and medium-sized companies. Meanwhile, ETRI is working on the integration of radio wave measurement and direction finder systems.
