ETRI Provides a Preemptive Response to Sinkholes with the Internet of Things
As part of a convergence research project led by the National Research Council of Science & Technology, ETRI has joined hands with the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology(KICT), the Korea Railroad Research Institute(KRRI), and the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources(KIGAM) to detect sinkholes using the Internet of Things(IoT).

ETRI will conduct underground monitoring through real-time data acquisition and establish an IoT-based platform to predict and respond to disasters.
KICT, KRRI, and KIGAM are known for their world-class technology in the monitoring of various changes related to water and sewage pipes, urban railway structures and surrounding ground conditions, and underground water level.

ETRI expects to prevent disasters by using the new technology to detect anomalies near underground railway structures and to watch over high-risk areas as thoroughly as an MRI scan.
