Korea Steps Up as the Hub of the Global ICT Industry

The spectacular progress seen in ICT is making the world a more convenient place to live.
How will ICT further change our lives in the future?
ETRI provided a few glimpses into the future at the Smart City booth at the World IT Show(WIS) 2014,
held from October 20 to November 7 at BEXCO in Busan.

At the event held in official affiliation with the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2014,
ETRI presented a “Smart City” with a number of public functions networking with one another based on the state-of-the-art ICT.

The exhibition booth enabled visitors to enjoy an integrated experience of Smart Home, Smart Office, and Smart Life technologies.

The Smart Home section displayed technologies for Midas media television, intelligent greenhouse,
Internet of Things(IoT)-based smart coffee machines, OLED wireless power transmission,
a 4D live experience system, a next-generation multi-channel audio system,
health bikes, and a 3D virtual fitting service. In the meantime, the Smart Office section exhibited realistic smart walking,
smart energy, and indoor navigation systems, and the Smart Life section showcased Genie Talk, unmanned valet parking,
Genie Tutor, and a home service system for vacuum cleaners and lights.
These innovative technologies helped visitors envision a blueprint that will be enabled by ICT in the near future.

Dr. Heung-nam Kim, President of ETRI, noted “This exhibition is meaningful in that ETRI showcased a future of a Smart City.
Our institution will endeavor to enhance quality of life based on state-of-the-art ICT.”
