ㅇ 요약 :

Wireless networking has certain advantages over its wired counterparts for deployment in industrial environments due to its ease of deployment, maintenance, reconfigurability, and scalability.  Yet wireless is hardly used in such environments for mission- and safety-critical applications due to lack of guarantees for highly reliable and ultra low delay communications.  We will present NIST’s research activities to provide guidance and make it easier to deploy wireless in industrial environments.

Our systematic approach to deploy wireless includes (i) surveying the RF landscape to identify the most appropriate frequency bands for deployment of wireless technology at a given industrial site, (ii) user requirements and performance metrics for the wireless technology to be deployed, (iii) RF channel sounding to develop channel propagation models in the identified frequency band, (iv) identification of an appropriate wireless technology to deploy, modeling and simulation at the PHY layer and above for the wireless technology identified, (v) hardware test bed validation and verification of modeling and simulation results, and (vi) co-simulation of physical plan, process control mechanism, and wireless networking to assess the impacts of wireless networking on the industrial plant performance metrics and not just networking performance metrics.  The last item is a study of the overall effects in a cyber physical system framework.

Lastly, we present our work on scheduling wireless transmissions, which appears to have the best chances of meeting the industrial user requirements of highly reliable and ultra low delay wireless communications.
