This talk will present the terahertz communication prospects and challenges. Lately, the demand for the ultra-fast wireless communications systems is increasing due to the explosive increase in mobile traffic. To date, this demand has been solved by advanced modulation and signal processing techniques at microwave frequencies. However, challenges are upto the level that can no longer handle the traffic without increasing the carrier frequencies for more spectral resources, which mandates the introduction of terahertz communications. Subjects include the state-of-the-art terahertz communication IC designs as well as the CMOS-based terahertz IC designs done at KAIST.
