Technology Commercialization Division
A creative economy can be categorized into the convergence sector and technology commercialization sector. The convergence sector focuses on creating new industries through the convergence of culture and arts in various forms, or strengthening the competitiveness of existing industries. The technology commercialization sector refers to one which promotes start-ups based on technology innovation for national paradigm conversion and encourages job creation as well as competitiveness reinforcement through the vitalization of venture businesses. For the technology commercialization sector, an important goal is to pursue commercialization by transferring the R&D results to the companies and by acquiring and protecting intellectual property. Along with the rise of the creative economy, organizations with a commercialization function are perceived as some of the most important organizations in research institutes.
The Technology Commercialization Division is performing a key role in developing and implementing value-creating IP (intellectual property) strategies for maximizing the value of ETRI's knowledge assets. We are also implementing commercialization strategies to support the growth of SMEs through transferring the technologies developed by ETRI. Through these activities, we are making efforts to carry out the tasks of the technology commercialization sector—a critical component in the creative economy.
In particular, in order to increase the value of intellectual property by creating, enhancing, and utilizing core IPs, we have built a close collaboration system with both domestic and foreign experts in various fields, including law, accounting, and patents. In addition, we are providing diverse supporting programs for SMEs to enhance their technology competitiveness, as well as maintaining a tight relationship with organizations such as the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning, Regional Techno-Parks, the Korea Venture Business Association (KOVA), and the Korea Council of Medium Industry (KCMI).
The activities of the Technology Commercialization Division aim to grow our economy towards a high value-added-creating society by making the innovative R&D results become valuable sources of value-added-creation through the active process of technology diffusion.
In order to achieve this aim, we are concentrating all of our efforts on strengthening R&D capabilities, expanding the scope of communication between the markets, and supporting the growth of SMEs, and more. We will exert ourselves to be a strong foundation for the growth of enterprises and the national economy through the process of ETRI’s commercialization. We would appreciate your help and encouragement for the Technology Commercialization Division, which pursues sustainable innovation for ETRI to become the growth engine of national development and realization of a creative economy.
