SW-SoC Convergence Research Laboratory

The SW-SoC Convergence Research Laboratory (SSCRL) leads innovation of technology, value, and infrastructure as the national SW-SoC convergence R&BD strategic position to create value-added embedded SW-SoC convergence new industry via an open R&BD platform. (The SW-SoC Convergence Research Laboratory [SSCRL] is actively researching the fields of SW-SoC convergence R&BD platform for innovative technology, value and infrastructure, and the creation of a new industry as a national strategic position.)

SSCRL started in January 2012 to lead worldwide competitiveness of national key convergence industries through promoting convergence, business support, and training for SoC which is a value-added semiconductor and embedded SW technology, a core tool of new function development. (SSCRL started in January 2012 to promote worldwide competitiveness of national key convergence industries by developing an innovative SW-SoC R&BD convergence ecosystem with business support and training.)

To be in an R&BD strategic position of 4th R&D , SSCRL will strengthen the core competitiveness of the SW-SoC convergence industry through maintaining superiority of IT industry competitiveness and prior occupation of the new convergence industry based on open convergence platform.

To accomplish these objectives, first, we will pursue technology innovation to lead the future growing momentum by developing core fundamental technology and solutions which will be necessary in ten years. Second, we will realize value innovation to lead the global technology industry by taking an open R&BD strategic position which will develop SW-SoC convergence technology in cooperation with industries and the academic world which will be necessary in five years. The third mission is infrastructure innovation to settle down the continuously growing ecosystem by driving positive feedback of business support and training closely coupled with R&BD .

We have accomplished world-class R&D results for core chip-set for mobile communications, terrestrial DMB chip-set, multimedia processing core components, low-power/high-performance signal processing processor technology, digital CMOS-based RF circuit technology, and new-concept human-body communication technology. Also, we have contributed to the increasing global competitiveness of key industries by leading the embedded SW industry, which is 60% of the domestic SW market, through developing a Linux-based embedded OS and middleware, a nano-scale OS for sensor nodes, and a high-fidelity OS for automobiles. With training and entire-cycle support for related industry foundation development, we created a first fabless company of sales of more than $100 million and a nationwide training system.

Being in a national SW-SoC convergence R&BD strategic position, SSCRL will focus our capacity on mobile, automobile, home appliances, and energy technology as well as the development of continuous fundamental core technologies to be in the van of taking the two-digit market share of the SoC and embedded SW world market by creating a value-added embedded SW-SoC convergence new industry.
