Broadcasting & Telecommunications Media Research Laboratory
"Leading the New Technologies in Broadcasting and Telecommunications Media (BTM) for warm-hearted society"
The Broadcasting & Telecommunications Media Research Laboratory is engaged in various research activities aimed at realizing the knowledge-based society of the future where advanced realistic broadcasting and telecommunications services will be naturally converged into human life. our laboratory approaches the issue comprehensively, covering all areas that are likely to be concerned with convergence including broadcasting, broadcasting-telecommunications convergence, smart media, radio waves and satellites.
The Broadcasting & Telecommunications Media Research Laboratory has been conducting researches under the vision of "Leading the New Technologies in Broadcasting and Telecommunications Media (BTM) for warm-hearted society". The key objectives of our researches are; to develop next generation BTM core technologies and international standards, to create high class global BTM service with realistic BTM technologies, and to improve facilitation of RF resource service with advancement and enhancement of RF resource application.
Our laboratory is broadly composed of the following six departments: the Next Generation Smart TV Research Department; the Broadcasting System Research Department; the Realistic Broadcasting Media Research Department; the Intelligent Convergence Technology Research Department ; the Satellite & Wireless Convergence Research Department; and the Radio Technology Research Department. Our laboratory is responsible for generating world-class research results, has a list of big achievements in Korea, primarily in the areas of T-DMB, high-definition 3D TV, open IPTV, and COMS 1 (Chollian) satellite communication transponder and CR technology.
The research areas on which we are currently concentrating our resources are ultra-realistic media, broadcasting & telecommunications convergence platforms, satellites, radio technology for satellite/wireless. Ultra-realistic media include 3D TV, UHD TV, panorama, AR broadcasting and holography, while broadcasting & telecommunications convergence platforms include smart screen platform and networking, smart TV and smart convergence media, and smart mobile broadcasting. The satellite field includes the broadcasting/communication satellite tower system, payload navigation, next-generation VAST and ground station, RF and MMIC. The radio technology for satellite/wireless includes frequency sharing and radio wave engineering, the development of future radio wave technology and frequency resources, electromagnetic environment, and the adaptation of radio waves in real life for example transferring wireless power.
The Broadcasting&Telecommunications Media Research Laboratory will continue doing its utmost to become the most outstanding laboratory in the world in the area of broadcasting and telecommunications, on the basis of its strong commitment to assisting Korea's advance towards becoming the global number one media country.
