Strategic Project Planning for Internet Future Technology

To become a leader in the area of future IT eco-system, our department conducts studies on large-scale strategic project planning whose objectives are to establish the foundation for researching revolutionary, innovative and novel ideas of policies, core parts, network, service, application, management, and test-bed which are essential to build an ultra broadband fixed and mobile converged future infrastructure and deploy safe and high-quality future services.

Basic Research on Internet Future Infrastructure Technology

The ITU-R WP8F has named the 4th generation mobile communication system "IMT-Advanced" and is working to complete standardization by 2010. ETRI has committed multiple research projects to secure development of IMT-Advanced standard technology.

Especially, it is anticipated that new working items will be submitted to 3GPP before its commercial deployment by 2013. Although 4G mobile infrastructure architecture has adopted new proposals that could meet the requirements of recent mobile services, its complicated architecture has brought a number of tough challenges.
To cope with such challenges, we are planning to conduct various basic and novel researches in the area of next mobile communication technology and mobile services.
