We are developing consumer-based service platform techniques that create new revenues to small and medium-sized businesses by avoiding previous service platforms that are specific to given networks, providers and service types. In this research, we focus on common meta-service platforms that make the development of industry-specific applications services in a standard way, and industry-convergence platform techniques that benefits in shorter development periods for platforms in various industrial fields based on a common platform.
This research supports small and medium-sized businesses by initiating creative small and medium-sized business-centered convergent services and providing a foundation for expanding these enterprises.
Also by integrating the state-of-the-art information technologies with traditional enterprises, this research enables easier development of convergent services and improves the competitiveness of traditional enterprises by enabling them to re-generate new industrial fields.

For this, ETRI is pushing ahead, as the first phase, the development of semantic SOA-based common convergent service platform techniques that integrate communication and InformationTechnology, the development of broadcasting communication services for small/middle sized businesses, and the development of a standard technology for common platforms in convergent services.
In the second phase, we plan on developing industrial convergent service platforms based on the common platform, the spread in usage of the industrial convergent service platform, and the standardization of the industrial convergent service platform.
Fixed and mobile telecommunication networks are converging toward an all-IP communication network. In this environment, a new paradigm for user centric communications is needed that enables value chains of content providers, network providers, and service providers. To achieve this goal in the converged network, we are developing fundamental functions for personalized services, such as context-awareness, service adaptation, and service mobility.
Information and services become increasingly tailored to individual user preferences and characteristics. Preferably, the services should automatically and in real time adapt themselves to changes in context. Based on our R&D, we are expecting an increasing number of applications targeting special interest groups, and entertainment services adapting to our preferences and our current context and mood.

Voice over IP service expands its era to mobile and fixed-mobile convergence network such as WiFi-3G mobile, WiFi-LTE Advanced and 4G. Our research focuses on enabling technology of high-definition VoIP service over FMC network. First topic covers speech-audio convergence codec to provide superior speech and audio service quality over FMC network. Second one focuses its control method to keep the HD VoIP quality of service and experience (QoS and QoE) between end-to-end over FMC network.
Last topic is to bring them to the market of HD-VoIP service by collaboration of Telcoes and companies.
ITU-T G.729.1 and G.711.1, the lastest wideband speech codec standardization, and a WiFi QoS control technology involved in IEEE802.11 standard are outstanding outcomes of our research. Following figure shows a scalable structure of G.711.1 super-wideband speech and audio codec which provide excellent speech & audio qulaity (best MOS score is upto 4.7) over Internet

Various network equipments and services are developed because activation of internet and fusion of wire/wireless network. One of critical points of this new technology's equipment and service development is interoperability between products. In network equipment's side, if a product has not interoperability, it would be insufficiently competitive.
In network service side, if a product has not interoperability, it would be difficult service linkage, extension, improvement.
Standardization of equipments and service technology is very important for interoperability. But, interoperability is difficult because standard's imperfection and ambiguity.
Interoperability Test is checking normal operation about linkage and compatibility of same function between different equipments. It needs test between many devices for best interoperability test. A mandatory clause is interoperability test of market control equipment.
So, This project offers technical support and professional engineer for medium and small companies, venture companies, and institute by standardization, interoperability of next generation convergence network. Also, It will be construct global network infrastructure, raise domestic technology awareness ,and get the initiative of network market by Global network equipments alliance(ONA) because a company is not able to enter to global market's high entry barrier.
