Radio Technology Department

Radio Technology Department has been developing the efficient use technology of radio resources, new radio resources such as millimeter & tera hertz, electromagnetic environmental study, and new application service of the radio wave.

With the advent of ubiquitous era, there are lots of spectrum demands, but the supply of the radio resources is limited. Thus Radio Technology Department will develop the creative radio technology to balance the demand and supply of the radio resources, study new applications of radio wave to strengthen competitiveness in the radio industry.

So, our department has a vision of being a global leader in the fields of radio technology. To achieve the above vision, we will create new radio technologies and get convergence service by applying the radio technology to other industry.

  Research Department Introduction

  

Radio technology research areas are 1) to develop the spectrum utilization technologies, 2) to develop core and system technologies of the new radio resource, 3) to develop the applied radio technologies, and to study the electromagnetic environment technologies. Spectrum utilization technologies are to improve the spectral efficiency of the limited radio resources such as cognitive radio and to develop spectrum engineering technologies. Development of new radio resource focuses on system design and radio transmission, which are suitable for the radio environment of millimeter-wave and THz band in oder to transmit several Gbps data.

For radio industrial applications, we are developing the breast cancer detection system and detection of the impure things in foods by using the spectroscopy and imaging technologies of M/W and Tera-hertz bands. Electromagnetic environment technologies include the countermeasure of adverse effects on human body and interference between devices, the EM computational analysis, and the measurement and monitoring of EM emission, etc.

  Future Plan

In order to activate the role of radio wave in the future society, we will keep to develop new radio technologies, effects of electromagnetic wave on human body and biological and medical study, convergence technologies of IT-BT-NT, etc. On the other hand, intelligent antenna technologies based on SDR, core device of antenna and RF, and cognitive radio technologies will be continued. Also, in the near future, image sensing system using millimeter-wave and THz, wireless energy transmission technology to supply an electrical energy by wireless to various electronic appliances will be developed. Finally, nano radio using carbon nano tube will be studied for medical and convergence services.
