The Satellite & Wireless Convergence Research Department has developed technologies to maximize the roles of satellite communications in information society of 21st century.
Currently, the department's research focuses on the development of satellite communications system for communications, ocean and meteorological satellite, development of satellite and terrestrial convergence technology for internet service on high-speed mobile vehicles, development of global navigation satellite system ground station and search and rescue beacon technologies, Research of GNSS Signal Generation/Processing and Positioning Performance, development of 21GHz band satellite broadcasting transmission technology, development of satellite return link access core technology for high efficient transmission. development of on board processing technology for S band satellite payload, development of satellite radio interface technology for IMT-Advanced, development of KOMPSAT satellite MCE system, etc.

To provide various wireless multimedia services, the department also researches earth station technology, broadband satellite communication and broadcasting technology, stratosphere communication technology, MMIC technology, broadband wireless transmission technology, and broadband integrated wireless communications standards for PPDR(Public Protection and Disaster Relief).
