To provide universal and ubiquitous service, Satellite & Wireless Convergence Research Department will focus on enhancing satellite broadcasting and communications transmission technology, GNSS technology, environment friendly infra technology like satellite and high altitude platform technology including OBP, Gigabit class transmission, big antenna, beam forming, and satellite control system to facilitate satellite handheld broadband services.
21GHz satellite HD broadcasting service technology will enable to realize ultra high definition television which has much higher resolution. Next generation VSAT transmission technology providing higher effectiveness of transmission for less operation cost, IMT-advanced satellite transmission and OBP technology allowing handheld communications services using satellite and terrestrial handheld terminal, and wide area public security communications technology with convergence of satellite and ground will be the main theme of the development.
Highly accurate and reliable positioning and advanced search & rescue technology will be developed based on multi-system GNSS configuration. Mm-wave wireless technology for short distance broadband communications, antenna technology, MMIC and RF technology will be also highlighted to get the synergy from convergence with the satellite technology. Public satellite applications for government, public organizations, and national defense will be firstly taken care of and the effort will be extended to the areas including ship building, ocean, aviation, and agriculture.
